During Labor and Birth
Makaia encourages our clients to call her as soon as labor begins. During this important family event she provides physical and emotional support, while monitoring the progress of labor and the well being of mother and baby. In the first few hours following the birth a thorough newborn exam is done in your presence. You and your newborn will remain together at all times. Post-birth instructions for mother and baby are reviewed before she leaves. The stay after delivery is a minimum of 3 to 4 hours to ensure that both mother and baby are stable.
After the Birth
Between the first and third day following birth Makaia will make a home visit to check on mother and baby. She is always available for questions. She will provide records to take to your infant's care provider and birth certificates are filed. At one week she will see your infant at the office for metabolic screening. Six weeks after delivery Makaia will see the mother at our office for a complete exam and family planning needs are addressed.
In the Event of a Problem...
Though most labors are normal, Makaia is trained and equipped to handle common and minor obstetric problems and obtain medical consultation or intervention when appropriate. Should transfer to a hospital become necessary, she will accompany you and remain with you until the baby is born.
